How We Built YarnTally Inside a Real 11-Godown Textile Wholesale Business

15 July 2026 · 8 min read

Every YarnTally screen was tested in real godowns with real yarn cartons. Here's how we built India's first wholesale-native SaaS.

Most Indian B2B SaaS starts on a whiteboard in Bangalore. YarnTally started on a shop floor in Ghaziabad — with a family business, 11 godowns, ₹40+ Cr of monthly turnover in yarn wholesale, and a phone that had to work with unreliable godown wifi.

That's why YarnTally does things other software can't.

Problem 1: Book stock never matches actual stock

The real cause is subtle: mill labels vary by supplier, cartons get moved between godowns without ledger entry, damage happens silently, and the GST portal 2B report has a third number.

YarnTally solves this with QR-tag every carton. Print an A4 sheet of 100 tags. Every subsequent move is a scan. Book stock = physical stock, always.

GSTR-2B reconciliation view ingests your monthly 2B CSV and auto-matches against your purchases. Whatever doesn't match surfaces instantly.

Problem 2: Damage silent-write-off

A ₹250/kg lot gets water damaged. 20 kg unsaleable. WAC stays at ₹250 — but should be ₹275 because the loss needs to spread. Sell at ₹260/kg thinking margin. Actually losing ₹15.

Damage tracker captures every write-off with cause. Effective cost uplifts WAC by damage/kg on hand. Sell screen shows: effective cost, floor (× 1.10), target (× 1.20 or 30d avg). Red warning if you type below floor.

Problem 3: Multi-godown transfers with no audit

Move 300 kg from Ghaziabad to Noida. Three months later, physical count says 5300 kg, ledger says 5500 kg. Nobody knows where 200 kg went.

Stock transfer flow: pick source godown, destination, lot, quantity. Atomic decrement/increment. Audit log records who, when, from, to.

Problem 4: Export compliance chaos

EDPMS 9-month RBI clock, FIRC allocation, LC drawdowns, customs duty ITC — most operators have no tool for it. Spreadsheets and bank statements and prayer.

YarnTally's full trade suite: AD codes, LUT with 30-day expiry alerts, EDPMS with 9-month aging, FIRC bulk allocation across many EDPMS bills, LC drawdowns, customs ITC reconciliation, drawback/RoDTEP/MEIS claims, FX gain/loss.

RBI-compliant out of the box.

Problem 5: Mill payment tracking

Every purchase: PO → GRN → mill invoice → payment. If any step is missed, accountant catches it 6 months later.

Mill payment tracker locks every step. Multi-currency for imported yarn. Landed cost calculator includes duty, freight, insurance, clearing.

The AI Business Copilot

"What sold today in the Ghaziabad godown?" / "Which lots haven't moved in 90 days?" / "Which customers haven't ordered in 60 days?"

Voice input in Hindi works fine — designed for operators.
